Xiamen, also known as Amoy, is a famous coastal port and scenic tourist city in southeast China. With beautiful landscapes and spring-like weather throughout the year, the city is situated by the sea, and the sea is within the city. It is renowned as the “Seaside Garden.”

 

Selected tourist attractions in Xiamen：

1. Kulangsu Island (Or Gulangyu Island, 鼓浪屿)

Kulangsu is a tiny island located on the estuary of the Chiu-lung River, facing the city of Xiamen. With the opening of a commercial port at Xiamen in 1843, and the establishment of the island as an international settlement in 1903, this island off the southern coast of the Chinese empire suddenly became an important window for Sino-foreign exchanges. Kulangsu is an exceptional example of the cultural fusion that emerged from these exchanges, which remain legible in its urban fabric. There is a mixture of different architectural styles including Traditional Southern Fujian Style, Western Classical Revival Style and Veranda Colonial Style. The most exceptional testimony of the fusion of various stylistic influences is a new architectural movement, the Amoy Deco Style, which is a synthesis of the Modernist style of the early 20th century and Art Deco.

 

2. Nanputuo Temple (南普陀寺)

The Nanputuo Temple is a famous Buddhist temple in the Southeast coast of China, located on Xiamen island and at the foot of Mount Wulaofeng. It is next to Xiamen University. Behind the temple has the beautiful hills with their mysterious grottoes and green trees, and to its front is the deep blue sea with sparkling waves. The sea melted into the sky provides pleasant scenery. Founded in the Tang dynasty, the Nanputuo Temple has a long history and embodies the Southern Fujian (Minnan) culture and, therefore, it is known as A Millennium Ancient Monastery. A pair of couplets on the pillars of the Mahāvīra Hall writes: “It is ancient as it was built during the Kaiyuan period of the Tang dynasty. Its light shines more gloriously as Xiamen facing Mount Taiwu.”

4. Xiamen Botanical Garden (厦门园林植物园)

Xiamen Botanical Garden, first built in 1960, is set amidst Wanshi Mountain in the southeast part of Xiamen Island. It covers an area of 4.93 square kilometers and serves as a comprehensive botanical garden integrating plant species preservation, scientific research, science popularization education, development and application, ecological protection and tourism services. In the garden, more than 8,600 taxa of plants have been introduced and cultivated from all over the world , and more than a dozen specialized gardens have been built, including Palm Garden, Rainforest, Gymnosperm Garden, Peculiar plant Garden, Ginger Garden and Succulent Garden with the largest outdoor succulent exhibition area in China. The Botanical Garden is a national science popularization education base, a biodiversity conservation demonstration base and the national wildlife conservation and nature reserve construction project -Palm Plant Conservation Center.

By subway: take line 2 (towards Caicuo) -> Wuyuanwan Station, transfer to line 2 (towards Tianzhu Mountain Station) -> Wetland Park, walk about 1.9 kilometers -> Xiamen Wutong Fliport Hotel, about 70 minutes.

By taxi: about ￥40 for 16 kilometers, 30 minutes.

Xiamenbei Railway Station-> Xiamen Wutong Fliport Hotel

By subway: take line 1(towards Zhenhai Rd.)->Torch HiTech Park Station, transfer to line 2 (towards Caicuo) -> Wuyuanwan Station, transfer to line 2 (towards Tianzhu Mountain Station) -> Wetland Park, walk about 1.9 kilometers -> Xiamen Wutong Fliport Hotel, about 80 minutes.

By taxi: about ￥55 for 23 kilometers, 35 minutes.
